The City of Madrid

Madrid is a cosmopolitan city that combines its modern infrastructure and status as an economic, financial, government, and service hub with its rich cultural and artistic heritage. Its historical center stands out as one of the most important of any major European city.

Its renowned monuments and sights include the Plaza Mayor (Main Square), located in the historical center and regarded as the heart of Madrid during Habsburg Spain, the Palacio Real (Royal Palace), inspired by Bernini’s plans for the Louvre in Paris, the Plaza de Oriente (Orient Square), the opera house, and the modern Almudena Cathedral.
